A reckless proposal on the part of ASMFC to increase the striped bass fish kill in order to satisfy politicians and special interests. Let's return now to the 1970's when the entire striped bass fishery collapsed from over harvesting!

We agree that mortality is too high to allow for the striped bass age structure to expand and produce a quality fishery. Thus some decrease in recreational fishing mortality may be called for, but certainly there is no reason at present to support an increase in commercial harvest. In addition there is likely an increase in natural moartality due to a Mycobacterium infection in the Chesapeake Bay coupled with below average recruitment. All these factor mitigate against any increase in harvest at this time.

This is typical politics...it is a proven fact that recreational pumps much more money into the economy than commercial fishing...problem is, commericial fisherman will spend whatever it takes to push their interests down our throats and politicians are eager to accept those bribes...oops, I mean lobbyist monies.

The recreational daily limit should be dropped to 1 fish. Charter captains should not be allowed to keep more than 1-2 per week. At the present time some of the captains I have spoken to feel they have a right just as their charter people to keep 2 per day. I see no reason for a captain who fishes every day to keep 2 fish.
